The A2B module EVM kit provides a platform for initial software development of A2B applications using Clockworks AB0001 (AD2428) A2B module or the AB0331 (AD2437) A2B module. It’s also a convenient way to quickly add 2 channel audio input and output to an A2B system for testing.

The EVM board does not include the two A2B connectors used on the Clockworks AB0003 (AD2428) module or the AB0337 (AD2437) module and therefore can not be used with those modules.

The A2B module EVM kit operates in two modes. In the A2B client (sub-node) mode configuration it acts like other client nodes and you can add up to 10 (AD2428) or 15 (AD2437Z) of them.

In the A2B root (main) mode of the EVM, this board sits as the first node in the A2B network.

Development is normally done using ADI’s SigmaStudio+ with the A2B extensions. An ADI USBi or equivalent is used to interface the host system to the EVM.

If you’re new to A2B development you should look over the EVM manual as it discusses in detail the steps to use it. Analog Devices also has quite a bit of documentation on their website and Wiki pages for A2B; generally user manuals for any A2B board can be used to understand A2B system development.

The EVM board includes an Analog Devices ADAU1761 SigmaDSP to provide stereo analog input and output along with programmable DSP functions. Applications for the ADAU1761 are developed using SigmaStudio 4.7. A .xml file exported from that tool is used by SigmaStudio+ to load the DSP application at runtime.

The EVM board, without the A2B module, can be used for SigmaDSP development using Sigma Studio. To do this it must be configured as a master mode board to provide the MCLK signal the ADAU1761 needs.

An external power supply is used. For AD2428 based systems a 12V 6W supply is sufficient. An onboard regulator provides the 9V needed for the AD2428 CFG0 phantom power scheme. For AD2437 based system an external 24V 60W supply to support the CFG4 phantom power scheme is suggested.

The AB0001 and AB0331 modules that are used with this board support ADI’s 2 wire phantom power schemes. ADI also offers AD2437 systems with either XLR or RJ-45 connectors and differing implementations of the CFG4 power system. Clockworks offers isolators/adapters for bridging A2B data between different power/connector schemes.
