Clockworks’ A2B OEM module allows developers to customize A2B interconnect by routing the A2B up and downstream signals over headers versus the DuraClik connectors on the standard Clockwork A2B module. Typically Clockworks’ A2B module is used with ADC or DAC boards, but can also be used with things like class D amplifier devices with direct I2S input or digital microphones with I2S or PDM output.

The module uses the latest generation ADI transceiver, the AD2428. The module can operate as a main (root) or sub-node (client) device. It requires external power, i.e. it is not a phantom powered node. However it can be used in a phantom powered system by including a few parts on the carrier board.

As there are differences in the circuitry for local versus phantom powered A2B nodes the module comes in two versions.

While I2S is mostly used for audio data, the actual data carried can be anything that fits the bit depth (16, 24, or 32) and rates (44.1, 48, 96 kHz) that A2B supports.

The Clockworks A2B OEM module is available as part of developers kit that includes mating boards (such as the AB0106 pictured here) to provide easy I/O expansion as well as support local power or phantom power operation.

These plug in modules make interfacing to ADC and DAC EVMs via I2S and/or I2C as simple as connecting up a few jumper wires.
