Video from a presentation at Teardown 2019. Unfortunately the audio is out of sync with the video, and a little is missing off the front. This is a based on the work done for the AES paper and the background materials found here (including the audio files for experimenting with audible noise levels). It’s less technical (on the noise portion) and hopes to encourage the attendees to think about the science in STEM.
Summary: The audio business seems to generate no end of snake-oil peddlers with devices that violate the known laws of physics. In this session, we’ll take a look at the most basic electrical component, resistors, and see what audio measurements can tell us about them. There are some “take home” activities you can do on your computer with free software to listen for yourself the effect that noise has on music reproduction.
